We’ve all had our share of crazy interview stories and it’s a struggle. I am so glad I haven’t had too many terrible situations but some of my experiences were not ideal.

Better Late Than Never

In the spring of May 2019, I was job hunting like crazy. I was not happy with my position working with special needs kids and I was so burnt out. I applied for an EKG monitor tech position at a hospital and scheduled an interview in between my shifts. I even changed out of my work clothes in the hospital bathroom and did my makeup.

Once I arrived I told the security guard I had an interview and he made me wait in the lobby until I was late. I bugged him to let me in and I went into a conference room with two women. One did not look at me the entire time and just looked down at her paper. The other one looked angry and disgruntled.

The angry looking one grilled me with questions and often talked over me before I could fully respond. When she asked me about my top 3 assets I remember listing that I was level-headed, resilient, and reliable. She rudely asked,” So do you THINK you’re level-headed or do you KNOW?” I was taken aback and stated that I knew I was level-headed. She then said,” Good” and furiously jotted down notes.

I mentally blocked out that interview but it was so awkward. I felt myself shutting down during the interview and it messed up my confidence. She was so aggressive and condescending. My relative who was an employee there filed a complaint on my behalf. They stated that the interviewer often had complaints and treated everyone terribly.

Scarier Than Pet Cemetery

A few months after that interview I applied for a desk job. I don’t remember the actual position name or the type of company. However, I do recall that I had trouble finding the office. The place was next to a cemetery. Scary right?

I parked outside of this building and I saw a door that was locked. I believe someone saw me on the cameras because a short rotund man let me in. He had a blue collared long sleeve, slacks, and a hat. The man didn’t give me his name, he just requested that I sit at a desk filling out paperwork. Once I completed everything he asked me questions.

He scoffed at the fact I graduated college and sat back asking,” So you went to college…why are you applying here?” I don’t remember my exact answer, though I did say that I was looking for something new. The man sat up and asked again,” No, I’m asking WHY you’re applying here.” I only remember him rudely stating that I shouldn’t work there and was cursing about how it was a crappy workplace.

The man tried to convince me by saying that it was nothing but drama and that man didn’t need to tell me twice. I felt uncomfortable and wanted to walk out of the interview. He led me out of the room and guided me into this weird hangar-looking building with high ceilings in the back of the office.

It was like a giant warehouse that was dark, but it had a door that led to the outside. He stated,” Oh, I don’t know if you’re religious but this building used to be part of the cemetery as well.” I think that hangar/warehouse building might’ve been used to store coffins or headstones. I felt a heavy vibe just walking through. It was one of the worst interview experiences ever.
